They have recently introduced the S1 series of wheels to bring their tubeless friendly wheels to a wider market. The S1 series may come in at a cheaper price point than the MK3 but there has been no skimping in quality or performance. The Crest is aimed at the enthusiast/aggressive XC rider/racer on a budget or needs a second wheelset for training. For the larger 29er size the weight of 1813g is very good considering the price point, durability and strength. Out of the box the wheels are tight and the spokes have a reassuring even tension. You can tell they were assembled and finished by an experienced builder. They are already installed with tubeless tape and valves, you just need to add sealant and a tubeless tyre to complete. Tubeless tyres went on without a fuss, first go with a tubeless pump and they seated to the bead no problem. I used 2.25 Michelin Force XC tyre and the tubeless seal was perfect. The wheels are very user friendly. The Neo hubs need no specialist tools to remove the end caps and freehub. These can be removed by hand with a push/pull fitting. This means cleaning out the freehub is a breeze. The bearings are all a standardised size as well if you need to replace them in the future. Standard J-Bend spokes are used for the lacing and this means if you were unfortunate to break a spoke they can be very easily replaced. I mated the Crest wheels to a carbon 29er XC hardtail, this is a cross country focused bike but with a slightly more trail friendly geometry/build so it can be ridden aggressively when required. What was first evident when riding the wheels is they roll very efficiently and smoothly. Stiffness is good but not so stiff the wheels are uncomfortable on the hardtail. The Neo freehub picks up fast so very little lag time when putting the power down. The freehub click is not too loud but distinctive and has a solid confident engagement. The rim width gives wide tyre profile which aids to a comfortable and compliant ride. My bike feels more lively and responsive with these wheels installed. In the few months, I‰Ûªve been riding the wheels I have covered approximately 600 miles. They have not skipped a beat despite mindlessly pushing through some technical trails. The rims have not dinged and remained true despite me being closer to the upper weight limit of the wheels. Spoke tension has remained which gives confidence for a long-lasting wheel. Bearings are still running smooth considering the miles covered and being ridden in all weather conditions. If you want some fit and forget wheels for your XC bike you can‰Ûªt go wrong with these. They strike an excellent balance on price/performance/durability/weight. The ease of the tubeless set-up makes them a no brainer to throw away your tubes and spring some new life into your bike. Very lite wieght wheels by diver25, 29 October 2017 When this wheel set arrived, the clrek in my shipping company. Didn’t t expected the lightness of it. She just amazed with the big box but inside it is very lite. I really like this wheels very lite yet strong. And the shipping of chainreaction is very fast. Keep it up guys.
