Light but tough minimalist short. by OllieC, 20 June 2018, 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful Of the dozens of shorts I’ve bought over the years, these are my favourites and I now have a couple of pairs. I presume the one star reviews are a reflection of the poor item description and not the quality of the shorts. As was mentioned in other reviews, the latest version only has one pocket (the old version had two) and it is small. It’ll just about take one car key, a bank card and lift pass. I hate having stuff dangling around in loose short pockets and either wear a pack or bib undershorts with pockets (i.e specialized swat bibs) so this is no problem for me. The shorts are less baggy than most and can feel a little cosy around the crotch when you first put them on. However, this is not something I noticed when riding and it has the benefit that the crotch never gets caught by the front of the saddle; something I find infuriating and detest in a short. It’s probably worth buying a size up if you plan on wearing armoured under-shorts. The materials used make the shorts are lighter and stretcher than most of the burlier dh specific shorts but the crotch is reinforced with a tougher material so they shrug off rear tyre burns. I have found the shorts to be very durable, surviving multiple crashes, and in my opinion are worth the initial outlay. As the choice for women’s mountain bike shorts is so limited, my girlfriend also has a pair of these. Although she would appreciate a woman’s specific cut, they fit pretty well. If you’re after baggy cargo style shorts with big pockets, look elswhere. If you’re after a minimalist, light and durable short for trail through to DH use, then these are worth a look. I will almost certainly buy another pair when the current ones finally wear out.
