Fluid shifting, responsive braking. by rubberduckling, 23 April 2015, 3 out of 4 people found this review helpful This is a specialized product for flat bar road bikes but it will function with MTB parts e.g. V brakes. I was ignorant about the phenomenon of flat bar parts. I accidentally bought this thinking it was an MTB part. In addition, I bought the model for 2 chainrings although I was looking for a 3 chainring set. But the sale price was absolutely unbeatable. I can live with using 2 chainwheels because this is for my commuter bike and I have never managed to get the chain on the big chainwheel outside of the workshop. Instructions for some Shimano parts leave much to be desired. I could not figure out how to change the mode for brakes from calliper to V brakes. I had to consult the description on CRC for a pair of flat bar road shifters. It involved removing the tiny screw near the cable end holder in the brake lever, then removing the plastic insert from the other side, sliding the cable end holder into the slot for V, then replacing the insert and screw. I am using using this 8 speed brake/shifter combo with a new KMC chain and fairly new cassette, along with new cable housing. The shifting quality they provide is a vast improvement over what my old parts (which were not that old) offered. And the braike levers are more solid.
