Comprehensive and easy to use external gear cable set with formed 1.2 mm stainless steel cables. by SGreen, 14 August 2017, 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful This lifeline performance brake cable set came with all the bits and pieces to do a complete road bike cable change out. I particularly liked the idea of a rear derailleur cable guide which prevents the cable contacting the edge of the derailleur cable hole (after the barrel adjuster) when in either low or high gears. The cable protectors stop paint being removed on the head stem due to cable outers moving. The installation instructions strictly state no lubrication! Being somewhat sceptical I hung the cables on the clothes line and sprayed them with dry PTFE lubricant before installation. On cutting the cable sheaths to length, the inner plastic lining is clearly seen (hence no lube). The plastic lining was deformed by cable cutters so I needed to use a sewing needle to open the liner up before threading the cable through (instructions recommend this). I have had them on the road for over 2,000 km now and they have only required 1.5 turns of the barrel adjuster to maintain STI indexing – not bad. Operability of the gears has not changed with some wet weather riding in that time. Pros: good value for money. low friction. no lube required. Cons: care needed to reform inner plastic sheath.
