Not bad, but struggles to combine the best of both types of pedal by L1am, 23 April 2017, 16 out of 17 people found this review helpful Firstly, these pedals do look pretty cool on the bike but they aren’t slim and do weigh a bit compared to normal clipless pedals. I have always ridden clipless and started off with SPDs many years ago before moving over to crank brothers for few years before moving back to Shimano. I wanted an SPD type pedal but with a bigger platform and to my surprise, these came out and the DMR V-twin within a few weeks of each other. I opted for Nukeproof because they looked and sounded better and were cheaper. It does say that you can use these with existing SPD cleats. They are correct but I wouldn’t bother as they aren’t as easy to clip into as the ones supplied. For the sake of 10 minutes, I would swap them over. My opinion is that these are fine and do the job OK but can’t help feeling that you can’t have the best of both worlds yet because in order for these to work really well, you really need a shoe that has both good cleats, whilst having the stickiness to really grip with the flat pedals. I rather foolishly bought new shoes before these pedals and whilst the shoes are brilliant, the Vibram sole just doesn’t grip onto the flat pedal if you can’t clip in before it’s too late. Therefore I still don’t feel comfortable riding if I haven’t clipped in. I wanted the best of both worlds and I don’t think this pedal does that as I am not convinced that anyone has made a shoe yet that can be fully adaptable to these types of pedals. I could be wrong and feel free to advise me of any shoe as I want a pair! Pros: look good and fairly easy to clip into. Cons: ypu might need to find new shoes as well! And what a happy camper I am, loads of support and clipping in and out is seamless. Great job Nukeproof !
