by Anonymous, 22 January 2013, 9 out of 10 people found this review helpful Lord only knows why Topeak decided to use a rectangular box dropout mount… it overlapped onto one of my rear disc brake mounting bolt making it impossible for the rack end to sit flush against the dropout Problem fixed by stacking a smaller washers to a height that is slightly higher than the disc brake mounting bolt and replacing the supplied mounting screw with a similar sized but slightly LONGER screw to make sure it fully screws into the dropout DO ALL ABOVE with rack ON THE GROUND with the mounting legs straddling the rear wheel …. alot less back breaking I assure you… once the legs are screwed/mounted on THEN rotate the entire rack up to its intended position and work on the stainless steel adjustable bars To keep this as painless as possible , LOOSELY install the bars and bolts onto the rack first. Once loosely installed, bend and bolt the bars onto the seatstays or seat clamps. The FINAL step would be adjusting the entire rack back and forth until a desired posture is decided. Hold everything in place and BOLT DOWN the 4 bolts/nuts on the stainless steel bars securely You’re done installing Rack itself is sturdy and has held up well so far Without a DX compatible Topeak bag, the DX slot rail serves no purpose The generic rear light mounting plate is good thinking … just extend it A LITTLE LOWER please … with a larger set of LED lights (rectangular box-type red rear LED lights) installed on the plate, the DX bag CANNOT FIT into the opening of the DX slot ….. duhhhhh 0 star for this technical oversight Everything else is 5 star I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
Excellent disc brake clearance rack. by dave6319, 1 October 2013, 7 out of 7 people found this review helpful Despite a lot of bad reviews for this item,I found it fitted very easily without fouling the rear skewer on my Marin Bobcat hardtail.It would seem that you have to be lucky with the dimensions of your frame,at the junction of the seat/chain stays,in relation to your dropout,and the adjacent mounts,for it to fit easily. Best advice is simply to trial fit,if your local bike shop has one in stock to see if it will suit your frame,rather than blindly order online. It is a sturdy and lightweight rack,and will take most pannier bags very easily. But,be aware,the rack will increase the rigidity of your seat/chain stays,so that they flex less,which is very apparent when you try to remove and replace your rear wheel for standard maintenance! Pros: good disc brake clearance rack. Cons: decreases flexibilty of rear frame. I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
