King of the BBs? No. by uphillsr4girls, 1 June 2016, 13 out of 16 people found this review helpful There was a time Chris King was… well, king. He made the best BBs and Headsets. That time has now passed and time has left Chris behind. Sure, they are smooth, there’s less drag and they look pretty cool, but other manufacturers have joined the party and brought some beers with them and they look more appealing than the ones who brought ‘Sunny D’ Yes, they look really cool in all their various colours, but once you’ve mounted and removed it a couple of times, that fancy coating comes off and they look rubbish. The problem is, if you don’t service it every week, the bearings just don’t last. I know, I know, bearings don’t really last that long and even less in BBs. But the ball bearings in these are very small and once contaminated and ridden can cause the coating to break off and Chris decided not to make the bearings replaceable, so if they go, the whole BB goes in the bin. If you are racing, this BB is fine as if you fit this to your race bike and only use it to race, then most likely, you will service the BB after every race. You can even run these with just oil, as long as you flush it and re-oil. That’s where these BBs come into their own, for racing but that’s where they should stay, solely for racing. Very smooth and hardly any drag and even better run with oil, but you really don’t need that for everyday riding, it’s not worth it, but could give you that slight advantage coupled with other advantages could just win you the race. If I were you, I would get a HOPE BB. When the bearings are shot, you can knock them out and slap some more in, preferably ENDURO ceramics. For the added benefits of a CK BB I seriously wouldn’t bother. I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful

Poor Seals by Steve31166, 8 February 2016, 6 out of 8 people found this review helpful Chris King have now told me to re-grease these bearings every 6 weeks in winter. This is the second BB I have returned as it has ceased in less than 3 months. There was a huge amount of water and muck in the BB when we removed it. I wash it the same way as the Shimano Saint in my other bike and the Shimano has given no problems. We are so disappointed with CK that even the local bike shop is now no longer stocking this product. Don’t waste your money – Shimano are å£20.
