A quality mechanical brake at Amazing price! by Kingsoup, 17 August 2016, 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful First off, if you can run Hydraulic disc brakes, don’t bother with any mechanical, even cheap ones are superior to mechanical. 2nd, these are longer throw levers that are meant for mountain bikes, Road bikes have less pull on the cable (two kinds of BB7 brakes out there, one for road and one for mountain) and these aren’t great on a road bike. Onto the review, I’ve had many hydraulic brakes (Currently Shimano XT on mountain bike, amazing…), and was running BB5 on my road bike (the mountain versions, wrong kind, impossible to adjust ). These brakes are quality made, there is some imperfections in the casting but nothing to worry about, nice paint, pads look good, rotors are quality (105g each) nice bolts and CPS washers (all the plastic parts are fine, nothing wrong with them). Set them up exactly same as Avid BB7 (same brake as far as I can tell, 10x the price) They work pretty well, even on my road bike with not enough cable pull, they key is setting up the CPS washer stack exactly and adjusting them according to the Avid manual and having very nice straight rotors (I can see how if you don’t set these up properly they won’t work great, follow the Avid Manual exactly and power to spare I’m sure). They were squeaky for a while, but I powered through it and they’re getting quieter now. This is what mechanical brakes should cost, they work great, quality build, nice parts, its amazing value for money. If you have a road bike, i’d try out the slightly more expensive lightweight CMD-17 brakes, I think they have the right lever pull for Roadies. If you need mechanical brakes for your mountain bike, you cannot go wrong with these! The entire caliperdiscboltspads cost less then ONE set of pads for my inferior Avid BB5’s. Pros: price quality come with rotors and pads and washers Cons: not for road bikes I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
Don’t be fooled by Laerz, 9 May 2015, 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful These look like bb7’s but they are not, I have bb7s, and although they look like bb7s upon first glance that is where the similarities end. These are very cheaply made with low quality materials, and very poorly assembled, the plastic adjusters feel like they are going to snap, the caliper halves were not even bolted together properly, one caliper arrived seized,(CRC did send a replacement), however I would not buy these again, also they are seriously lacking in power, save your coin and buy bb7s I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
