Here are just a couple of interesting reviews that we picked out from verified customers:

Excellent on Ice, Not great in deep snow by mantelclock, 6 February 2015, 7 out of 8 people found this review helpful In order to stay reasonably fit during the off season, I ride on a bike trail not far from my office. It gets dark early this time of year, and since rush hour is the hour I get out of work, riding on the busy roads after dark is pretty much out of the question. I usually give up riding once the trail has snow and ice on it, but this year I thought I’d give a set of spiked winter tires a try because I really don’t enjoy riding on the trainer in my basement. I ordered up a set of Continental Nordic Spikes from Chain Reaction Cycles, and a week later the pair arrived at my door. This completes my trilogy of Continental tires – Travel Contacts for distance touring, Gatorskins for light touring, and now Nordics for winter wonderlands. Getting the tires on the rims was relatively easy. They fit quite nicely on the bike with canti brakes presenting no issues. I did have to remove the fenders as I didn’t want any snow to get lodged in there. There was very little space left over with the fenders on. The Nordic Spikes come in two varieties – 120 and 240 studs. I opted for the 120 stud versions because I would have to ride on pavement to get to the path and once the snow and ice starts to melt in a month or two, there would be numerous patches of bare asphalt on the bike path. Riding on the road to the path, the tires glided smoothly on the pavement. The studs barely touched the ground when riding perfectly upright, but I could definitely hear them when making the slightest move to the left or right. The parking lot at the path was basically a sheet of ice which I just rode over as if it were clear. The path itself was another story altogether. A warm day a week prior had attracted a large number of pedestrians to the path when there was about two inches of soft wet snow on the ground. The bitter cold that followed totally fossilized all of the prints in ice making for very treacherous riding. I had 65 psi in the tires and I felt every footprint that I bounced over. The good news is that I never felt that I was losing control of the bike despite the fact that I was riding on very rough ice. On some stretches of the path, I was able to find two inch deep hard snow. In this the tires dug down and gripped the surface well, but I think that more width would have helped the tires ride over the snow instead of through it. I could have used another 10mm of width, so for that I take off one star. In summary, these tires are great on ice but a bit narrow to be called a snow tire. For my purposes, however, I think they’ll work out just fine. Addendum: I rode again last night with 50psi in the tires. The trail was still extremely rough even with the reduced pressure, so in order to save my hindquarters I took to the streets. The shoulders had a considerable amount of ice in them but the tires did not slide at all and I got plenty of traction going up hills. I’ll keep these on until spring. Pros: very good traction on ice fairly low resistance on clear pavement Cons: a bit narrow to used as a snow tire. I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
