Fits a Surly 1X1 by Rover109, 14 October 2013, 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful It worked on my Surly 1×1 frame when I wanted it to be a 1×9. My Shimano hub with disc and freehub is converted to a nutted solid 10mm axle. These chain tugs, keyed to fit 10mm wide rearward facing dropouts hold the axle securely when the tug nuts are adjusted for alignment and the axle nuts are tightened up securely. The derailleur bolted up easily to the hanger tab incorporated in the right hand tug. Don’t bend or break the hanger tab when you crash or you will have to buy a new set of these tugs with hanger. That’s still better than bending or breaking a tab that’s permanently welded to a frame. My “new” Surly 1×9 shifts beautifully even with full length housing all the way to the Shimano Deore Shadow M592 rear mech. Pros: well made aluminium with black finish hold axle securely in alignment Cons: might not fit every horizontal dropout frame. not ideal for used with a quick release axle. not cheap to replace if you damage the hanger tab. os-os, that’s so-so backwards by Anonymous, 23 August 2006, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful Good idea, but not as well executed. They can fit the horizontal DOs of my ’06 On-One Il Pompino, but shimming the approx. 4mm gap with a square aluminum dowel should make it even more rigid and resistant to bending from a fall or deraileur hit. The left side chain tug (tug only side) wasn’t even machined with the correct axle diameter hole to fit at all. Maybe I just got a dud, but it seems simple enough to correct with a little drilling or some time with a round file or auger. I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
