An AL stem will likely be the same weight or lighter, for half the cost. But it will never be as cool as carbon. You don’t *need* a carbon stem, but if you *want* one, the EC90 is fantastic. Very very stiff, nice touches like Ti hardware and permanent “carbon prep” type treatment of the bar clamp, and 130g in a 120mm length. I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
