Both the front and rear spins smoothly and long. The rear hub has a nice spinning sound to it. The design of the wheels uses asymmetrical rim, coupled with radial and cross lacing, making it both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing to look at. A Very Pleasant Surprise by MikeyInCa, 31 May 2017, 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful So the rear wheel on my 2015 Cannondale Synapse (Mavic Aksium 1 Disc) began making lots of noise a few months ago. Two trips to an LBS (and $45 spent on “repair”) yielded no improvement. I needed a substitute wheelset, but I did not want to spend a lot of money for a number of reasons. I found these Fulcrum Racing 5s on Chain Reaction’s website. Being a Clyde (210#), I was concerned about going to LESS spokes than my Aksiums, but I just needed a backup wheelset so I could “rebuild” my originals and pushed forward with the purchase. Delivery to the States was uneventful and they arrived in good condition. After swapping everything over and mounting the wheels to my bike I went for a ride and was shocked about how nice these wheels were. I expected the Fulcrums to be quieter (and they were) but I did not expect to eliminate the Disc Rotor noise I was having as well. Moreover, the Fulcrums feel more responsive – again an unexpected benefit. I couldn’t be happier. In fact, the OEM Mavics are going to be relegated to backup status as these Fulcrums are going to be my primary wheelset. Thus far I’m very happy with these wheels.
