Great product – need to know it first by Satw, 18 May 2018, 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful I upgraded from Garmin edge 800 to Garmin Edge 1030 – which has more detailed maps. Initially found it harder to use it as it has more functions but now am getting used them. I found using post code to a destination is more complicated then it was with Edge 800. Impressed by Gigster, 27 April 2018, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful There seemed to be lots of negativity towards Garmins new unit, it`s expensive, yes I agree it is, build quality was another, totally disagree with that, touchscreen with gloves on, so far no issue with that either though you are able to turn up the screen sensitivity so maybe other review I read hadn`t done that. Features, well a host of features, too many to list but a vast improvement on my old reliable 810 unit. Training features I`m finding very useful coupled with the power data, FTP testing etc all of which means I`m now not paying for Strava premium because a lot of that data feedback & graphs is now on the device itself. The garmin connect app I`m also finding very good too which also allows me to update the device etc. No need to plug into a pc anymore. Battery life is good though, claimed 20 hours & definitely getting that. A lot of features require bluetooth which i`ve disabled which I`m sure extends the battery life & I`m yet to turn them on to truly find out what it is like with them on. Live segment data is one feature requiring bluetooth as well as being able to keep in touch with other garmin 1030 users, no idea how that works. It`ll also keep you informed of calls, texts etc should the need arise. Personally I prefer to have little as poss interaction with my phone when I`m cycling bar the occasional pic. Maps seem good for road riding but not tried it off road as yet, Rights of ways don`t seem to show up. However on road guidance is good, giving plenty of warning for junctions etc but again I`ve not fully utilised the feature (not created a route to follow). Nice big screen, easy to see & easy to adjust screen brightness, not had any issues in bright sunlight even with screen protector in place. Bought it as a bundle so got speed & cadence sensors which are still in the box. Premium heart rate strap is so so much better that the other, very comfortable, a lot lighter but no way of unhooking it so you step into it (rather than pull it over your shoulders). Bar mount is a chunky old affair though, big clumsy, cumbersome looking thing so that`s still in the box along with the sensors. Talking of sensors, the unit picked up the heart rate & my 4iiii power meter without any problem. You can connect to a wifi by searching & giving it the password & as soon as you are in range it`ll automatically upload your ride, no bluetooth faffing about, no plugging into computer. Before I`ve usually go through the gate having finished a ride & saved it it has uploaded it….brilliant All in all I`m please with the device though my bank balance isn`t but did purchase it with a 10% off discount & doubt I`ll be paying again for strava premium either so there`s another å£48/year saved Pros: training features heart rate strap ease of use build quality connectivity garmin app wifi power data Cons: bar mount price I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
