simple fix that works out the XX44 problem by bikebrayker, 28 January 2014, 12 out of 12 people found this review helpful after a very confusing 30mins spent on the net trying to get a new headset for my new frame with xx44 headtube (dialled bikes Alpine). this solves it. first off the CRC photo is not what you recieve. (that photo looks like the underside of a tapered headset lower) – you only get a solid, machined aluminium shim. internally for a 1,1/8th steerer / externally for a 1.5 headset. i’m taking a guess but i think it will fit any 1.5 headset….but don’t quote me on that one i have fitted this to a Hope type ‘H’ lower from the picknmix. which is to suit a 44mm headtube but has a 1.5 crown lower bearing race (primarily for tapered steerers) EC44/40 on the top you need the zerostack 44m upper – the Hope model is type ‘2’ – ZS44/28.6 …………28.6 is the internal diameter needed to fit a normal 1,1/8th steerer xx44 is a poor idea, for people with existing expensive 1,1/8th forks – as it means you are hugely limited in headset choices and going via Hope you need to buy 3 seperate components. why on earth we can’t have a simple reducer shim for top and bottom I don’t know and reuse your old but expensive hope, chrisking, acros, or whatever headset. if you have xx44 with 1,1/8th fork the cheap and simple option is to get the nukeproof model to suit, but the advantage with the Hope option is that when you ever up grade to tapered steerer you just drop this reducer out and no new headset to buy. word of warning. if you get the type “B” ZS44/30 (Lower) there will be a high chance your fork crown will foul the down tube of your frame in the event of a crash/90deg turn. am at a loss as to why hope make that model at all. but i suppose triple clamps will be fine, but don’t know any companies making a xx44 for down hill bikes. Pros: easy simple fix solid well machined item good price I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful

Make that old shock new again by Jeremy007, 26 May 2014, 7 out of 7 people found this review helpful I am a big fan of simple solutions to standards/compatibility issues. Hope nails one of the latest challenges for basement bike builders like me. I have a brand spanking new 2011 Devinci Dexter frame that is about to be dressed up with a 1-1/18 shock that wont work with the tapered headset that comes with it. if you have a frame that is designed for a 1-1/8 top and 1.5 inch bottom headset “aka tapered” this is a simple cost effective and solid solution to your issue. Put the hope reducer on the shock first. Install with crown race tool, then install 1.5 inch race on top. Your shock and frame will fit together like a glove.
