I don’t recommend these… by Anonymous, 20 February 2008, 7 out of 10 people found this review helpful …unless Hope fixes 2 things: Quality Control and bolt head design. I have 2 kits (of 6 bolts each) and they saved me around 5.5 grams per kit compared to steel bolts. I installed both kits a week ago and today went to check if they were tight (just like I do every time shortly after I bolt something new on to my bike). One of the bolts was a little loose (I used torque wrench for installation and gave the same torque to each bolt. I also covered the threads with anti-seize compound). I attempted to tighten it carefully, it yielded for about 5 degrees and then *it snapped*! The head has been separated from the threaded part. I happen to work at a materials science company, so I took the bolt head to our Professor here and he looked at the snap area through a microscope. “No wonder”, he said, “the bolt had a large cavern in the metal right where the head is connected to the threaded part”. And due to the *strange* design of the bolt (it has waaay too much metal drilled out from the bottom of Torq spline pit, drilled much deeper than any of the 3 kinds of steel disc rotor bolts I looked at), the amount of metal connecting the head to the rest of the bolt was insufficient given the cavern. What I mistook for the bolt loosening was actually the bolt head beginning to pop off due to irreversible deformations in the metal (“typical fatigue cracking”, the Professor said). The tightening torque I gave finished off the already condemned bolt. When they work they are okay… but I am now aware how narrow is the margin separating them from failure. The lack of quality control hints me that they are made in Taiwan or somewhere. And Adam, thank you for pointing us weight weenies to the tibolts web shop! how are you rounding them off??? by Anonymous, 3 September 2008, 8 out of 13 people found this review helpful if you follow the specified torque settings in the instructions, you shouldn’t be getting anywhere near enough pressure through a standard rotor bolts to round anything off, i think there may be some over tightening going on I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
