nice look and feel but… by DBuggIT, 4 April 2018, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful This bar tape is nice but a few lessons learned you might appreciate. Firstly the thicker 3.5 mm tape is MUCH harder to wind nicely around Skinny vintage drop bars. Due to the thickness, when you try to go around the bends you get too much tape inside for the correct outside wind. It becomes really tricker around the curves because either it bunches up inside or the outside doesn’t get enough overlap. Of course you probably won’t notice this till after the first ride when hand pressure causes exposed bar and you have to redo it risking surface peel from the sticky. It is great if you are careful and get it on right but just saying it is much harder than thinner tape on skinny bars. Also, due to the design of the bar ends (long prongs perpendicular to round bar end), when you jam the tape and bar ends into skinny vintage bars you may break the prongs like I did. It is just too tight with the 3.5 mm. This happened to me and I had to use another brand of bar end with different design i.e. multiple rubber circles parallel the to round bar end piece – see photo. This is a bit of a bugger because the logos on the bar ends are a nice touch and breaking them is quite disappointing. Recommend don’t go above 2.5 mm tape on skinny 25-26″ vintage bars.
