I tried Jagwire Ripcord last year, but for gears it wasn’t the best. Then I tried Shimano’s 105 cable set, and what a surprise! Smooth movement, strong casing, nice colours! I changed the cable sets on our 4 bikes, and the shifting performance became perfect. Pros: smooth movement rigid cable choice of colours extra outer case available in most shops outer case flexible enough Cons: casing not long enough for tt bikes not enough end caps for some bikes I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
Fantastic upgrade, easy installation by burka, 30 June 2018, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful Bought this to do my cables and housing by myself for the first time. The cables move so smoothly its incredible – my shifters move smoothly and it feels like at least half the effort to shift now. No need to use a lubricant prior to inserting the cables in the housing either which is nice, whatever Shimano does to this particular setup does not require it. There’s enough housing for a typical road bike that has long stretches of un-housed cable, but if your bike’s cables are 100% housed you will not have enough. My cables are exposed going along the downtube and chainstay and I only had about 30cm of housing left over. There is more than enough cable, just make sure you use the longer one on the rear derailleur 😉 Also, if you don’t have proper cable/housing cutters YOU SHOULD GET SOME. Goodness gracious cutting this housing with standard side-cutters or pliers was an exercise in perseverance. Despite my brutality the housing came out looking great and the ends were still clean.
