So Good I Bought Another Set by kenem, 19 February 2015, 4 out of 4 people found this review helpful I bought the first set of these to replace an older Shimano version. I was so impressed I bought another set to replace some Avid BB7’s. Set up is easy and operation is smooth and positive. The best mechanical disc brakes I’ve tried so far. Pros: smooth and positve easy setup Cons: not cheap I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful

OK but was expecting better by Robelst, 5 February 2016, 4 out of 9 people found this review helpful I had been using these callipers on Deore 180 mm discs fitted to a road-bike for around 3 months / 900 miles of commuting (city, tow-paths). Given that CX77 is generally considered Ultegra level, I was expecting a similar feel and power as the SLX hydros I use on my mountatin bike, obviously requiring additional and more continuous maintenance and cable adjustment. I was definitely right about the adjustments – there is little margin between the brake scraping against the disk and having dangerously low levels of braking power. Once set up correctly (which is not very difficult, just always carry a small Allen key with you) the power is usable but lacks the reserves, modulation and aggression of hydraulic brakes. I have no other experience with mechanical disc brakes so not sure how to rate them (therefore neutral 3 stars), all I can say is that even the Tiagra mini V-brakes on my cyclo cross bike give a lot more confidence and need less maintenance than these. Of course you still get the usual disc brake advantages (less trouble in very wet or muddy conditions, no wheel-rim wear) but otherwise nothing special. I replaced these callipers with TRP HY/RD a few weeks ago (hydraulics integrated in the callipers, still cable operated) and these are far superior and need little maintenance (self-centring, just keep cable-slack in order). They are twice as expensive so not fair to compare but I wish I had spotted those earlier and spent the extra money on those straight away. Pros: well finished easy to fit and initial setup Cons: need very regular adjustments stopping power not impressive need firm hand to operate I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
