V-brake good, pads short-lived by Gimbal, 11 January 2014, 12 out of 14 people found this review helpful Bought these Deore v-brakes when my previous pads wore out, buying the whole lot being not that much more than a good set of pads. There is nothing wrong with the v-brakes themselves, however the pads included have worn through to metal in less than 500 miles of winter commuting. By comparison the previous cheapo pads lasted many times longer with similar braking performance. This time around it’ll be a proper set of Kool-Stops. Excellent quality at a realistic price. by Brian68, 2 July 2014, 6 out of 6 people found this review helpful I upgraded from a Ridgeback Velocity (fitted with Shimano V brakes) to a Scott Metrix 20 fitted with Tektro RX3 (Mini V Brakes) in early June 2014. Compared to the Ridgeback the RX3’s were spongy, vague and ineffective. I spent over 1 hour trying to reset them as they pulled the rim over when applied, hung on, on one side or the other and had insufficient mudguard clearance. Even though it was a new bike I decided to change the brakes to the T610 and what a difference it made. I removed the RX3’s, fitted the T610’s and set them up within an hour. The existing cables fitted and I now have 25mm of mudguard clearance. I can operate a brake using two fingers and have every confidence that I can control my braking and stop. I would highly recommend these brakes if you want good, reliable, consistent braking. Pros: cost effective braking Cons: non that i have found I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
