Not Shimano’s best. (But there best is still the best.) by Crewdoglm, 15 August 2016, 9 out of 11 people found this review helpful As a loyal Dura-Ace fan from when 7700 was the new stuff, I’m giving this BB a mediocre score. The 7700 bottom bracket was made to compliment the rest that race-grade group by being very light. And it is that as well as being a sealed bearing unit. There are two problems: 1.) It’s quite delicate. The alloy cups and the left side lock ring are made of a soft enough material that just installing the thing no matter how carefully will slightly deform the aluminum. A mistake while installing could nicely round off one of the indents and it will not hold up to repeated swaps or adjustment. 2.) The lockring on the left side is a poor design requiring two tools to adjust and again, invites damage. Shimano’s other Octalink V1 bottom brackets all have a fixed cup on the left which simply goes in with a single tool and stops thus obviating the need for adjusting. Now the GOOD: If you build up a Dura-Ace 7700 series bike, the 7710 (track) or 5500 (105) bottom bracket both work perfectly as the spec is identical. That’s what you want. Those guys are STEEL, silky smooth, easy to install using the splined tool (not the detent spanner), and last forever. The 105 Octalink is also available in 70x24TPI (Italian). Pros: light almost a collector’s item Cons: overly delicate durability is an issue I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful

nice product if you can get it? by KennyA, 3 June 2016, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful Nice picture, but that is not what came in the box! I received an Italian threaded, cartridge style, BB. I thought that I was getting the last English thread, triple, 7703. Shame, but I have since purchased a 105 cartridge BB, and had a refund. But if you are in the market for the double 7700, buy the original, non cartridge, serviceable [straightforward], long lasting, and much lighter version.
