Not perfect but do the job! by JonoMcFly, 9 January 2016, 11 out of 13 people found this review helpful Still early days but here’s some thoughts on these. Fitting was straight forward enough, but could have used some more variation in the size of the supplied brake-bolt mounts (you get six, 4 ‘medium’, 1 ‘long’, 1 ‘short’). For me they are either too long or too short, so you do see some of the metal mount sticking out from front of fork/rear brake. This of course means there is less coverage of the actual guard too. I had to use a longer mount than necessary at the rear too, just to get enough room to insert the allen key behind the brake bolt, which is a shame as again this looks a bit messy. Also, watch it when you fit the smaller clip-on bits as it’s quite a stiff fitting and I accidentally bent the mount quite a bit just trying to get it on. It bent back again but probably is weaker than it was. They took about an hour to fit in all, though it could do with some tweaking still. Once on, they are sturdy. The main sections don’t rattle too much at all, and drop low enough to provide good spray protection for my riding buddies. However the front and read clip-on bits both rattle – the rear one taps the seat tube, which I’ve padded out to muffle, and the front one was just bouncing on bumps making a springy noise – I’ve had to angle it up a lot to stop this. These bits also look a bit ‘second thought’ too. To be honest, even though I’ll lose a bit of coverage, I’ll probably ditch these to save weight and give the bike a cleaner look. This will basically make the guards more like a set of extra-long Raceblades, but with axel mounts rather than frame mounts. That’s no bad thing. Essentially, if you can fit proper full length guards, then do. Otherwise, these do the job fine, with a few small niggles. I think they’re a bit overpriced, even with CRC’s competitive pricing! Pros: look good good coverage sturdy Cons: fiddly mounts could be more flexible I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
