Here are just a couple of interesting reviews that we picked out from verified customers:

It is what it is by maxgnarcore, 27 August 2014, 24 out of 24 people found this review helpful Have always bought XT cassettes in the past but more recently I’ve bought a couple of PG980s and now a 990. An XT cassette is functionally perfect, light, durable and reasonably priced it’s the commonsense choice. Comparing the two I’d say an XT is marginally superior to a 980. The XT cogs are finished and machined even where it doesn’t matter whereas the 980 is just a little bit less perfect. The only niggle for me is that the XT’s slightly textured plating soon looks scruffy and bears the scars of a thousand shifts whereas the 980’s smoother plating cleans up easily and lasts well. With this in mind I thought I’d try a 990 and predictably where the 980 is a little bit inferior to an XT, the 990 is a little bit better. Whereas my 980s look as though they were made when the tooling was starting to wear out, the 990 looks as though it was made when the tooling was new – it’s flawless. It has the same smooth shiny plating of the 980 but the minor details are better. Compared to XT or XTR where light weight is the goal, the 990s cogs look a bit chunky but somehow more purposeful. I haven’t weighed the 990 but I seem to recall that an 11-32 XT was 20g lighter than an equivalent 980 so I imagine the 990 is going to be pretty close. In use there’s absolutely no difference in shifting between any of them – even when they’re quite badly worn they still work well. So like a lot of MTB kit it comes down to few grams, some money and some cosmetics. If you’re looking for something that works perfectly and saves a few grams then go for XT. If you’re not too concerned about the weight of a particle of mud and like shiny stuff that stays that way then a 980 is a good choice. If you like shiny stuff and have to have the best, a 990 is the cassette for you. If you’re undecided the 990’s red spider is quite eye-catching – the anodising is clearly visible from behind as well as from the non-driveside (see pics). Pros: high quality looks superb I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful

Brilliant by BigDave1970, 29 May 2014, 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful I bought one of these and so far it has done 1200 miles of mainly off road riding, I’ve climbed some seriously steep hills and rode in all conditions and still is in perfect working order, I do thoroughly clean it after every ride to remove the dirt oil grit etc, as with anything look after it and it will serve you well Pros: light & strong looks great with the red spider fast shifting Cons: still a bit pricey I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
