Metal screwed in plastic… Also, as another reviewer said, the thing takes way too much space on the handlebars, pushing the brake levers too far towards the stem. It does shift awesome for the time it shifts… Mine broke 11 miles deep in the wood, just could’nt shift nor pedal anymore, it broke while the chain was between 2 clogs… CRC refunded me. Thanks. Well, it works by santa8086, 16 October 2014, 4 out of 5 people found this review helpful I’ve been running gripshift on my bikes for a long time, but ever since SRAM updated the design a few years ago, I’ve been second guessing it. The updated design looks great aesthetically, but changing a cable has gone from simple to tedious in contrast with the old 9-speed versions. I wish SRAM stuck to the old design. It was cheaper, simpler, and it worked great. These new versions actually seem like a step backward to me. I only buy these because I like the twist style of shifter and there really is no other choice for that. To be fair, cable-change annoyance and high-cost aside, it works great on the trail. Pros: one of few high-end twists available looks good Cons: expensive overcomplicated I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
