Stable platform rack for everyday use by Huey, 21 August 2016, 14 out of 15 people found this review helpful Underside of rack platform to rear dropout mounting eyelet is at least 350mm. This rack is to be recommended for it’s sturdiness (yet fairly light) and value for money. It’s well put together and comes with a plate at the rear for easily adding lights which have bolts for the brackets. The welding under the top plate is only tack welding, but the welding on the remainder is as good as it needs to be and full length where this matters (e.g. at the lower joint of the three legs each side). The black rack comes with painted (mild steel) front links which should keep the rust at bay for a while but the silver rack comes with chromed links which will turn brown in a year or two. YMMV. The bolts for fixing the links to the platform have a little square protrusion just below the head of each, which locates in the slot in the platform to stop the bolts rotating when the nut is done up underneath. As there is not a tool recess (slot or cross) in these heads, which does make for a nice flush fixing, it also means when the square shape bites through the soft aluminium of the platform and starts rotating, it’s difficult to finish doing the nut up! This happened to one of my 4 platform fixings, so I used mole-grips on the remainder of the bolt thread I could see and a spanner above that on the nut. There was no way I could undo the nut from the bolt short of drilling it out at that point as it was just spinning merrily. This is probably the only drawback. The picture given here at CRC shows the hooks for the bungee differently from what they are, there is no plate and the bottom of the front and rear stay on each side just kinks out to provide a point for the bungee hook – much simpler and lighter IMHO. This fits equally well on a 26″ MTB as a 700c hybrid (with 40c tyres and still 10mm clearance above the full mudguards). But it also does depend on where the reardropout mounting eyelets are on your bike. Pros: everything supplied black version comes with colour coded black links Cons: front links are not stainless (so expect rust) flush fixings could have slotted heads I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
Not QuickTrack Compatible!!! by meno69, 22 December 2014, 7 out of 8 people found this review helpful You have been warned. This item I cannot find anywhere on Topeak’s website – I didn’t know they sold a super tourist rack which isn’t quick track compatible. The top is flat and doesn’t have the grooves to fit one of the topeak quick track bags. You have been warned.
