Great breaking power for these auto-adjustable hybrid calipers by Nelu, 29 May 2017, 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful This is the second set I have now, the first one being on my cyclocross bike. It`s dead-easy to install but make sure you have the 20mm spacer if you have 160mm disks on a 140mm frame. If not, you`ll need the “Shimano Mount Adaptor Front Post to Post”: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ca/en/shimano-mount-adaptor-front-post-to-post/rp-prod13747 This set replaced the Avid BB5 on my commuter bike; day-and-night difference between them! This hybrid caliper is great and it only gets better after the initial break-in. It might not be as good as a full hydraulic break but it also doesn`t cost as much and furthermore, it is compatible with the existing cable-actuated brakes, which is great. It`s not cheap but it`s totally worth it; I`d buy it again, for sure! Pros: breaking power easy to install no other adjustments required Cons: pricey could be a bit less expensive I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
Good upgrade by maff, 6 June 2018, 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful My specialized roubaix came equipped with trp spyre flat mount brakes with 160 front rotor and 140 rear. After allowing for bed in period I concluded they were very poor and I’d say not as good as rim brakes. My friends bike was equipped with these trp hydro and after having a ride I concluded they were very good. Whilst they are not quite as powerful as full hydro set up they are 100% better than the spyre’s. I did convert at the same time to 160 rotor on the rear to be sure (there was just enough room) sure they are a bit bulky looking and I agree with the other reviewer that the top bolt is near on impossible to get an Allan key on. I got around this by grinding one down to fit. It would be good if trp supplied a short Allen key with the brakes as not everyone has access to a grider. Setting the caliper up is very straight forward I especially like how the actuation arm can be locked while you fix the cable. Pros: a quick fix easy set uo Cons: adapted allan key required I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
