Decent wheelset by Gettingfaster, 17 May 2017, 6 out of 7 people found this review helpful I bought these, having also been using Vision’s now discontinued T42 Trimax wheels for a number of years, and deciding I needed a quality set of training wheels for my road bike for general use mostly on pan flat roads, to replace a really old set of cheap wheels. Good build quality to the expectations I have from Vision. My wheels are fitted with 25 mm Continental Grand Prix 4000 tyres and I didn’t find them a huge pain to fit after working out what was needed, but a lot more difficult than some tyres and will need some patience if getting a flat whilst out riding. Only similarity experienced previously was fitting some open tubulars. Ride quality seems good but the wheels don’t like poor road surfaces at all. Probably exacerbated by having bike having an aluminium frame, there is a lot of noise when riding over anything not particularly smooth, which can cause a little wincing whilst riding. Certainly not as ground soaking as my older heavier wheels that you could thrash over anything rough. I actually had a problem with a clonking noise at the rear of the bike when I first used the wheels, which I came to believe was due to the inner tube valve knocking the sides of the valve hole. The noise was alleviated, however, by putting some electrical tape over the valve hole. Once on smooth roads, the wheels roll well though, feel sturdy and get a bit of wind and the spokes make a nice noise once up to speed. Lastly, I don’t really like the anodised braking surface and my braking seemed to be affected by it, but it is starting to come off now. They do look good. These would be, in my opinion, a good option for cheap aero wheels for time trials or triathlon on a budget or training wheels for your bike in these disciplines.
