Here are just a couple of interesting reviews that we picked out from verified customers:

Great bike, CRC is a pain by , 6 December 2017, 30 out of 33 people found this review helpful (I‰Ûªll update this when I‰Ûªve ridden more) Ordered the bike on the 23rd of November, came to the door (almost) with DHL on 6th of December, so about 2 weeks delivery from the UK to Sweden. Decided on the bike purely because of what my credit card allowed and also earlier reviews from MBR and liking the look and geometry and not having too high demands for weight and whatnot. First thing I notice when I unpack the bike from the box (that didn‰Ûªt bear a hint of damage done to it) is that the left side of the fork is proper scratched, then (after contacting support offering me a å£40 gift voucher, HAHHAHAHAH) I notice that the drop post is only 120mm, as opposed to 150mm as it says in the specs. Pretty annoyed by now. Started to assemble the bike, the brakes were wired around the frame like they were supposed to be on the other side of the bar and whatnot, well well, not the end of the world really, pumped up the fork, set the sag on the rear shock and tightened screws and everything and went for a short ride. So! First impression: I‰Ûªm 100kgs and 191cm tall so I‰Ûªve got an XL size bike that I‰Ûªve (right now) pumped to recommended pressure, but I figure I might have to adjust that to a bit more pressure, just have to ride it more to figure out the perfect pressure I guess, it‰Ûªs icy outside though and I need to get studded tyres on. One thing I noticed about the seat is that it doesn‰Ûªt drop very low, I‰Ûªd take away the drop post and put a non-dropper seat post there to make it drop lower if I was going to, say, a bike park. Also, must admit I‰Ûªm used to smaller sized bikes, and that this feels pretty huge in XL for someone 191cm even, but still feels right though! My inside leg is 92cm. The external cabling doesn‰Ûªt really bother me, and neither did it make any noise when I jerked it around and tried do bunny hops outside on the non-icy bits, not that it would have been a major problem anyway with some cable rattling, just saying cos seems like a lot of people are very focused on that. All in all, feels like a steal so far, apart from the few annoyances I described I‰Ûªm very pleased! Pros: bike feels great bike rides great price Cons: i laugh at crc’s customer service i also cry on behalf of my scratched fork I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful

Exceptional – What are you waiting for? by JRS27, 14 May 2018, 16 out of 17 people found this review helpful To set the scene my Sommet is a replacement for a 2014 Trek Remedy that I’ve had since new. I have been fortunate enough to ride and race a lot of ’boutique’ bikes over the years thanks to my local bike shop but a growing family has put an end to the racing for a while and called for a long term bike – on a 3k budget. I‰Ûªm a Cytec trained mechanic so usually build custom bikes but there are so many good deals on full builds that it was worth a punt. I‰Ûªm 6ft 1in and weight 190lbs. I went for a Size Large as per the size guide. I had a short list of bikes that I tested but both the Sommet and Escarpe kept coming to the top, mainly due to the great specs v price. I hummed and ha’d about both for some time due to the lack of recent reviews in cycling media and not being able to test ride them locally. The Escarpe has done well in MBR bike of the year but there is nothing on the new Sommet. Eventually I took a punt on the Sommet VR due to the longer travel over the Escarpe, 27.5 (650b) and somewhat sadly, the colour. I prefer the flex in an aluminium bike over carbon and the extra å£400 wasn’t worth the weight saving for me. After ordering I had a couple of concerns based on the very few (old) reviews I could find. The 1st was the snobby attitude of owning an ‘own brand’ bike. This was fairly stupid given that I’ve regularly ridden a NukeProof mega 275 and love it and that I also own a Ragley blue pig (owned by CRC). I was worried that the rear shock doesn‰Ûªt have lock out and finally Some of the old reviews mentioned that the seat tube on the old model is way too long to accommodate a large dropper post and that the paint isn’t the toughest in the world. All of this while remembering the bike is sub 2k! I ordered on Sunday and parcel force had a failed delivery on the Thursday morning meaning the bike arrived Friday. The bike was delivered in a huge unbranded box with the bike fully built except the bars needing put onto the stem. Straight out of the box I was taken back with how good the bike looks and although there are slightly more aggressive bikes out there how long, low and slack it is, even after studying the measurements online. Straight out of the box I wanted to make a couple of changes with favoured parts – 40mm Renthal strata stem, 170mm Reverb (which fits with about 1.5 inch to spare so the long seat tube must have been shorted), tubeless set up (Stans valves, Peatys sealent and gorilla tape). I set the rear shock to 200lbs (rockshox recommend body weight + kit), fork to 80lbs (5lbs over recommended) and everything else inc saddle (replaced with fabric scoop) set to a neutral position and headed out for the first ride. All I can say is the Sommet is outstanding and blindfolded I would never know is was a sub 2k bike. Our local loop starts with a 30min switchback climb which the Sommet went up with no effort at all. The front end was a little twitchy on the steepest bits but this just requires a bit of rider adjustment. I‰Ûªm not sure what it would be like with the stock 35mm stem. Once set to the correct pressures the Maxxis Minion and Highroller just keep going and the rear shock is incredibly supportive with around 25% sag ‰ÛÒ I couldn‰Ûªt believe it wasn‰Ûªt locked out but worried it may not come ‰Û÷alive‰Ûª on the descents. The cockpit is super roomy, the bars nice and wide at 800mm and the SLX finishing kit is excellent, as you would expect from Shimano. Shimano has been my go to for years so I knew what I was getting here. Descending was an absolute joy, the bike is an absolute rocket, the rear shock his hugely active and works through the whole stroke and while I had the Yari set up a bit hard the small and large damping is outstanding. There is no noticeable flex around the bike and it just begs to be pushed harder and harder. There is plenty space with the boost hubs to go with bigger tyres but the 2.4/2.3 are really nice (the rear is heavy with the DD casing but gives that little extra protection from flats). The Sommet absolutely loves going fast, it digs hard into corners and with the rebound set right it pushes back in the right places. Deals with rocks, ruts and roots in its stride and takes off when you hit the jumps. The bars are huge and we‰Ûªve had few very close encounters with trees but these can be cut down to suit ‰ÛÒ I‰Ûªll be leaving them as they are I‰Ûªve done 3 proper rides in the 2 weeks that I‰Ûªve had the Sommet and genuinely can‰Ûªt believe how good it rides and how good it looks. The guys and girls that I ride/race with are all seriously impressed also and if CRC had more in stock there would be more on order this week. I really can‰Ûªt find a weak point, yes a lockout on the rear shock would be nice but I‰Ûªve not missed it, the bike isn‰Ûªt the lightest but it climbs and descends like a beast and I could complain chain stay paint scratches but I have size 12 feet and this happens on every bike and its nothing that heli tape won‰Ûªt sort out, CRC do put foam on the chain stay and inside of the seat stay but a little more would go a miss. If you‰Ûªre thinking about a Sommet then go for it. Forget the price tag and the in-house brand this bike could (should) be priced higher and still be great value (in my opinion). I thought I‰Ûªd have budget left for upgrades but there is nothing I would change if I didn‰Ûªt have have the parts already. The Stock stem and saddle are both nice and the brand x dropper is an excellent budget post. Looks like juniors savings will be starting a little sooner!! I‰Ûªm not going to apologise for the silly long review because I think CRC are doing themselves an injustice by not pushing for more reviews out there and will also add that I have not affiliation to CRC. Pros: price quality finishing kit great geometry great looking bike fast up and down hill wide bars (800mm) Cons: no lock out on rear shock not the lightest (or heaviest) around crc dont give you a free multitool anymore I found this review helpful I did not find this review helpful
