Great for family trailriding, useless off-road by DoctorGrit, 25 June 2016, 6 out of 6 people found this review helpful This tyre came as standard on my Parkwood 27.5+. On road and hard pack tracks they’re ok, but this is not mountain bike terrain. On mountain terrain the tyre has two problems. On gritty up-hills, the rear breaks traction; despite their width and running with low pressure. On descending steep, gritty switchbacks the front often breaks traction, leading to spills; as experienced on the Cafal trail at Cwmcarn. The same problems are exacerbated in muddy conditions, as found in the peak district recently. Taking these tyres on and off is a real struggle, requiring “the knack” and strong fingers, be warned. I’d recommend a practice “on-and-off” before any riding! My rims are WTB I45scrapers. For these reasons I cannot recommend these tyres as being safe or fit-for-purpose on technical trails. So I have tried WTB trail boss, 27.5 x 3.0 ~å£35.00 @CRC Will not fit the Rock Shock Revolution fork of the Parkwood; rear fits but rubs chain say. Pity! A 2.8 inch wide version of the trail boss at this price would be a no-brainer. For the Planet X Parkwood the “next price” contenders are Schwalbe Rocket Ron and Nobby Nic. These tyres are easier to take on and off than the WTB tyres, with Ron getting my vote for a general tyre, Nic for muddy conditions. The Schwalbes are ~å£52 a CRC C’mon WTB, 27.5×2.8 Trail Bosses please! Cons: not really a mountain tyre difficult and time consuming to replace. I didn’t really had any other options but so far it really performed well. Very nice grip, a bit heavy but already accepted it for this dimension.
